“World Under Canvas” is a choice of auteur, artistic, and independent cinema, with special emphasis on fresh European film. This year the focus is on premieres selected at leading festivals, including Venice, San Sebastián, Rotterdam, Berlin, and Cannes.
The festival audience will see “The Way He Looks,” awarded with FIPRESCI in Berlinale’s Panorama section, as well as “Metalhead,” a heavy metal story about growing up. Kazimierz Dolny will hold premieres of “The Dog” – a documentary film about John Wojtowicz, the inspiration behind the protagonist of the famous “Dog Day Afternoon” – and Sebastián Alfi’s tale “Gabor.” There is also something for poetry-lovers, namely “Meetings With a Young Poet.”
The program of Two Riversides also includes Benjamin Heisenberg’s latest film “Superegos,” and Claire Simon’s “Gare du Nord,” an ode to one of the largest railway stations in Europe and the multicultural population visiting it. One should not forget “Like the Wind,” which was inspired by the life of Armida Miserere, a prison governor. The film has the form of a recollection prior to the heroine’s death, exploring the most important events in her life to solve a certain mystery.
“World Under Canvas” is comprised of 35 films, five of which have been presented at Cannes’ main competition. One of them, “Winter Sleep,” was awarded with Palme d’Or.
