The vampires of Jim Jarmusch’s vampires, the cult film “Ida,” the incredible “Papusza,” and, finally, the Golden Bear winner “Child’s Pose” – we are taking a second look at these films at Two Riversides. As part of the Great Cinema on the Small Market Square section we shall remind you about works that shall not be forgotten.
In the Golden Bear-awarded (2013) “Child’s Pose” (dir. Calin Peter Netzer) a young man, Barbu, causes a tragic accident. His mother, the rich and respected Cornelia, uses all her connections and money to protect her only child from prison. In Kazimierz we shall also see the Golden Bear nominated “In Order of Disappearance,” a crime comedy compared to “Fargo” by the Coen brothers. The next film we present is Steven Knight’s “Locke,” a film based entirely on the performance of one actor – Tom Hardy.
The screenings at the Small Market Square also include Polish films. After the “Cinema Lesson” with Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz, the viewers will have a chance to see “Papusza.” Jacek Bromski and his film “One Way Ticket to the Moon” will take us on a journey to the 1960s, the colourful era of Flower Children, hippies, and big beat. “Ida” was not only showered with accolades in Poland, but it also surpassed the famous “Nymphomaniac” by Lars von Trier and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” by Wes Anderson. The film was screened as part of the Spotlight section at this year’s Sundance, together with Jim Jarmusch’s “Only Lovers Left Alive,” which we will also see at the Perła Cinema at the Small Market Square.
