He became interested in Papusza before cinema did. When in 1993 Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz created “Papusza’s Harps,” a large vocal-instrumental form for voice, choir, and orchestra, he thought that to be the end of his adventure with the Romani poetess. 16 years later the Krauzes approached him and offered to use the track in their latest film.
On August 7th, the composer will tell the story that began anew, during the “Cinema Lesson.” We will take an extraordinary trip to the Romani world. To understand the importance of music in “Papusza,” we will watch the film once more the very same evening. This will take place under special circumstances, however – at the cinema under the stars, in the marketplace of Kazimierz. The audience will be in for a treat not only sonically, but also – thanks to the talent of directors of photography and set designers – visually.
Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz is one of the most renown comporsers of film and popular music. His score for “Papusza” has won him many awards, including the Golden Lion for best Polish film music of the year at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, and the Polish Film Award 2014.
See you at the 8th Two Riversides festival from August 2nd until 10th in Kazimierz Dolny and Janowiec nad Wisłą!
