His films starred John Malkovich, Dustin Hoffman, and Daniel Olbrychski. The screening of the new film by the author of “The Tin Drum” and “Young Törless” is reserved exclusively for the viewers at Two Riversides. “Diplomacy” by Volker Schlöndorff will not enter Polish cinemas.
This time the Academy Award and Palme d’Or winner created an excellent film which is more intimate. It turned out to be a hit at the Berlinale 2014. The plot takes place in Paris, a day before Hitler capitulated. One of the protagonists is general Dietrich von Choltitz, the city’s wartime governor, who refused Hitler’s order to destroy Paris. As Artistic Director of Two Riversides Grażyna Torbicka underlines, “Excellent directing of a duel between personalities, and great acting by Niels Aestrup (the general) and Andre Dussolier (the consul) make this film a real treat for cinema-goers.”
