The 8th Film and Art Festival Two Riversides begins on August 2nd in Kazimierz Dolny and Janowiec nad Wisłą. Thanks to cooperation with Film Point Group, the opening day will feature the screening of an excellent film, which received the Palm d’Or at the Cannes festival.
“Winter Sleep”, by Turkish author Nuri Bilge Ceylan, enchanted Jane Campion (head of the jury), the critics, who honoured the film with the FIPRESCI award, as well as the audience. The film’s protagonist is a former actor (played by Haluk Bilginer), who runs a hotel in the Cappadocian highlands. Rich, intelligent, educated, with a beautiful, young wife at his side, he is a visitor from another world to the impoverished and isolated inhabitants of the small mountain village. Once the season is over and the hotel enters hibernation, the co-existence of worlds so different will prove to be very difficult.
The film, whose core are its dialogues, becomes the source of many reflections on modern man and human relations. We will have a chance to share these thoughts with our special guests, the film’s authors, during the Two Riversides Festival.
